MAutoPitch Review – Tutorial, Presets and More

MAutoPitch Review of 2024 – Tutorial, Presets & More

Recording vocals is a long and tedious process that involves getting the right microphone, setting everything up in your DAW, and pulling up a few plugins to “enhance” the way you sound.

The hardest part, however, is actually singing. If you’ve been taking vocal courses and singing all your life – it should be a lot easier. Unfortunately, most of us haven’t.

Now there are two ways to go. You can either go ahead and take a couple years off to go to a music school to learn how to sing or get really good at editing your vocals.

If you are a producer, the latter one will be a lot more beneficial for you, especially in the long run. That’s when the pitch correction features come to play!

While AutoTune is by all means the best vocal enhancing VST plugin out there, spending $400+ on it isn’t the most efficient way, especially for beginners with little to no budget.

Luckily, there are plugin developers who don’t mind helping out the music community by releasing free vocal VST plugins. One of the prime examples of such applications is MAutoPitch, which I am going to review today.

MAutoPitch Review

MAutoPitch is a cool automatic pitch correction VST plugin that enhances vocals and various monophonic instruments.

On top of that, you can use the features like formant shift and stereo expansion, which come in handy when you want to push the performance of the plugin further.

Alright, let’s get to the review!

User Interface

First of all, it’s worth noting that MAutoPitch vocal VST plugin has one of the most advanced user interfaces out there. Being styleable, resizable, and GPU accelerable, it’s definitely a great free vocal plugin for those who can’t really afford AutoTune.

These days, interfaces have to be quick and easy-to-use. However, that’s not enough. Adding versatility and better visual appearance can be a game changer, which MAutoPitch is proud of. Built on the most advanced GUI engine, you can expect the free vocal VST performance to be decent to say the least.

The best part is that you get to control the way it looks. You can turn it vintage, modern, or futuristic with a few clicks of your mouse.

The ability to resize the plugin isn’t crazy, but you’d be surprised if I told you how many premium plugins I’ve paid $$$ for don’t come with this feature. If you have multiple plugins open simultaneously, little features like resizing your window come in very handy.

Lastly, it’s worth noting how all the graphics are mainly accelerated using the PC GPU, while letting CPU performance focus on the audio.

Visualisation Engine

Every musician should trust their ears more than any other sense – and that’s a fact. However, having a little help from the plugin can make your job a little easier.

MAutoPitch provides great metering systems and time graphs, all customizable ready-to-go. Having all the relevant values in from of your eyes makes interpreting data a ton easier.

Multiparameters

Imagine if you could control multiple parameters with a single tool? Well, that’s what multiparameter function in MAutoPitch is.

Being able to not only control a bunch of parameters, but also automate certain processes makes the vocal modifying process a whole lot easier. Always wanted to morph between bank of settings with a touch of one button? Now you can!

Signal Processing

MAutoPitch is able to process mono and stereo signal like most similar vocal plugins, but there is more.

This bad boy lets you handle mid / side encoding for stereo field processing, separate channels, separate mid / side signal, and up to 8 channels of surround audio. It’s great for music, but also works for video editing and games. Pretty impressive for the price of $0.

Automatic Gain Compensation

AGC or automatic gain compensation function helps MAutoPitch adapt to your current audio settings and ensures the output sound is on the same level as the input sound. I found this feature incredibly for one simple reason.

Sometimes the output sounds a lot better just because it’s loud. When you balance the volumes and mix everything, you may find out that the vocals don’t actually sound good and have to re-record everything. Well, AGC will help you avoid such inconveniences.

Safety Limiter

We all know how some VST plugins (vocal included) can increase gain tremendously when exposed to certain audio materials. The result is the immediate danger to your ears.

To avoid that, MAutoPitch comes with a safety limiter that controls the output level and never lets it go over 0dB.

Integration With MIDI Devices

MAutoPitch comes with a decent MIDI processor that lets you call the functions of the free vocal VST plugin in real time.

Unlimited Sampling Rate / 64-Bit Processing

Using 64-bit audio processing, the free plugin for vocals can process any sample rate. The highest most producers go for is 192kHz, but you can go higher if you will – and MAutoPitch will handle it.

CPU-Optimization

The plugin is CPU-optimized. As mentioned earlier, MAutoPitch uses GPU processing power to handle all the graphics, and leave the CPU as many resources as needed to handle the audio properly.

Add one of the fastest algorithms and processing capabilities – and you got one of the fastest plugin for vocals on the market.

MAutoPitch Presets Management / Exchange

Presets for the audio plugin can be accessed from any project – that’s not bad all by itself. On top of that, the VST for vocals can automatically share and download presets to and from the MeldaProduction servers.

As a result, the community stays active.

Plugin Extension Support

MAutoPitch supports all plugin formats (VST, VST3, AAX, AU), 2 operating systems (Windows Os and Mac Os), and both 32 and 64-bit processing.

Accessibility

The software policy is really simple. Licence files are stored locally and are to-be used by one user. This, however, doesn’t mean you can’t have it installed on multiple devices you own.

Free Updates

Lastly, it’s important to mention that once you’ve got the MAutoPitch free plugin for vocals, you get free updates for as long as the company is around.

With subscription or update fees that premium plugins introduce sometimes, this policy makes getting the product a no-brainer.

MAutoPitch Tutorial

Instead of writing down steps or general guidelines, I suggest checking out the video below. It kind of goes over the plugin in general and then focuses on the practical use of it.

MAutoPitch Vs AutoTune

AutoTune is the most popular plugin for vocals used all over the world not only by bedroom producers but professionals as well. Let’s compare them really quick.

First, AutoTune is a lot more advanced. If you are a beginner, you only need a handful of features. Most beginners just use the automation feature that does everything for you.

Unlike MAutoPitch, you’ll need to invest a considerable amount of time into it to be able to use AutoTune to its full capacity.

Second, AutoTune is a lot heavier. Having an insane amount of features comes at a price – high CPU load. If you have a powerful computer, there is nothing to worry about.

However, if you happen to have an older laptop, for example, your DAW may start lagging all of a sudden because of the plugin.

MAutoPitch, on the other hand, is a light and basic alternative which is easier to understand for beginners and easier to handle for weaker PCs and laptops. Well, it’s also free, so there is that.

Final Verdict

MAutoPitch is a fantastic and flexible plugin that’s made to support the music community, rather than just make money on it.

While it’s not as popular or powerful as AutoTune, MAutoPitch is a great little addition to your collection of sound enhancing plugins that will definitely come in handy without hurting your wallet.

Coming with tons of cool features a lot of other developers overlook, both design and performance-related, I think getting this bad boy to patch up your vocals is a great idea.
