Interview With Rapper and Music Producer LXL BOV

Today we are going to interview LXL BOV, an artist, music producer, and rapper from Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your background?

Well, I was born in Niagara Falls NY buffalo. I come from a low-income family, so life was always kind of struggle and still is. I grew up around music such as rock, metal, and rap. My dad plays guitar, and my brother Useless did as well, so I started playing the bass. Useless and I just started going around making a band, but we didn’t go anywhere due to the fact we didn’t know what to do at a young age.

Who were your role models when you were growing up?

My roles would have to be my dad and my brother cause they were always into music heavy. But Kurt Cobain was definitely a life change for me. He’s a significant influence and always will be.

What made you get into music production? Was it a particular event?

Well I always big on making music, I didn’t start making rap songs Until about almost a year ago I would say.

Is Instagram your only marketing strategy? There are thousands of artists just like you. Why are you special?

Well, not exactly just Instagram I promote music on SoundCloud and YouTube. For an artist like myself, it’s hard to promote with little money. I was sick of not having fans, so I went out and started doing self-promoting. I wouldn’t say I’m different from every other artist cause we’re all trying to go somewhere in the music business.

But if I had to say what’s different, it’d have to be my motivation. Motivation is critical when making music gotta always wanna make music and promote. I self promote about a few hours a day, and it’s not as efficient as paid promotions but still works just takes a lot of time.

What do you do besides producing music? Do you work at all?

I don’t work at the moment cause I’m 17, but I probably should have had a job by now. It’s just all focus on music right now.

When do you plan on doing music full-time without worrying about how to pay the bills and stuff? Essentially, when do you think you’ll “make it”?

Well if I had tons of money to blow I have a feeling I would already be there. It’s just in this music business it’s all about investing money. Some of the people get lucky some of the people like me don’t get lucky because you’re still trying to learn how to bring an audience in without that money.

How’s the music scene in Niagara Falls? What would you change?

Music scene down here is crazy honestly most people don’t even know. I met my good friend about 5 or 8 months ago I would say Kevin X, and we basically started making trap metal together, and I honestly think we’re the only ones out here doing it. Everyone one is mostly like that old type rap either the 90s rap or Eminem type rap.

Is it easy to find like-minded people in your area? Are you a part of a music community?

The community of rap for me is just with my brother Useless Youngslyme and Kevin X. We’re not a group, but we support each other heavy.

Do you ever feel down and think that everything you do is not worth the effort at the end of the day?

No, I don’t think that any of this was not worth it in the end because I’m not stopping until I get where I want to be. I am highly motivated, and I won’t let go of it. I want to make it big and flex on all my haters.

Who are your favorite artists of today? Why?

Favorite artists would have to be 6ix9ine, XXXtentacion, Lil Peep, etc. I have a lot of new generation influences.

What motivates you to work hard every day even though you don’t see a high return on investment at the beginning of your journey?

Just it’s all about motivation, and I have a high motivation to become something big with this music.

Before we finish up, is there something you want to say to the aspiring artists?

For the artist who is trying to come up – just keep working on music and don’t stop. Don’t worry about hate, do you and stay motivated.

When can people contact you, Instagram perhaps?

My Instagram is @lxlbov.
