Interview With Artist and Music Producer Trce

Today we are going to interview Trace Ashton, more known as Trce, an artist and music producer from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your background, Trace?

I’m an 18-year-old self-taught artist and producer, I’ve been making music for about 3 years, but have only recently started putting my songs on Spotify and Apple Music.

Have you been exposed to a lot of music growing up?

Growing up my mom would always listen to rap artists like Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Jay-Z, and Pharrell, and a lot of early 2000’s hip hop, but my dad would listen to a lot of rock music like Metallica, System Of A Down, and a lot of other bands. But in my house, whenever someone’s cleaning, eating, or doing anything, there’s always music playing.

How’s growing up in Vegas is? Not a lot of people know the scene outside of all the casinos and flashy hotels.

Growing up in Vegas is pretty interesting. The city is small, with so many connections and diversity. I’ve always lived on the west side of town 10 miles away from the strip, and there’s still casinos and restaurants open 24/7.

How developed is the music scene in your city? Are there lots of opportunities to perform at bars and nightclubs?

The music scene isn’t very developed in Las Vegas for younger upcoming artists. As you get older, more opportunities come on the strip in some venues, but I’d love to see the scene grow into something massive.

What made you decide to produce? A lot of people love music, but only a handful start getting into the “boring” part of things such as making beats, mixing, and mastering.

So I’m primarily an artist, and when it comes to my music, I have a plan of how I want everything to sound when I write it out. Also, I want to solve the issue of copyright problems by cutting out another producer who I’d have to pay for the rights for their beat. That’s why I did build music studio for myself.

Which process of making a beat are you the best at? Mastering and mixing take a long time to become good at.

When I make beats the process I’m usually the best at is the drums. I always make sure my drums are slapping! I also use the best vst plugins for hip hop, so that’s not a problem.

It’s good that you are thinking of building your personal brand. What are your other marketing strategies besides social media?

My brand can be reached on 702collective.net, and we market ourselves with hoodies, our curated Spotify playlist, and many more ideas that are in the works.

You seem to put a lot of work into both Instagram and making music. Moreover, like everyone else, you have the stuff to do on the top of that. How do you find time for everything?

My schedule is always busy, but the people around me and the support I have from my friends is what keeps me on track with everything. That’s probably the most significant factor because they keep me motivated to keep on pushing and working.

Which artists inspire you?

Some of my inspirations are Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, and Kyle. Gambino is just such a talented person in every aspect, and his creativity spreads in multiple fields. Pharrell is the same way, with insane music and fashion. Kyle is an artist I’ve been listening to for a while now, and I’ve been blessed enough to see him live twice. His message and positivity is something nobody else has.

What motivates you to work on your passions when you could’ve been partying instead?

One of the biggest things that motivate me is my team around me. We all have the same drive, and we enjoy our time together perfecting our crafts. Every weekend we shoot together and bond, and have fun doing that. Plus we’ve all known each other for over 5 years.

Do you ever have “low” days when you feel like you are wasting your time? How do you get over them?

On those low days, I’ll text one of my friends or someone to work with and just try to catch a vibe and create something new. If nobody can link up, then I just listen to some inspiring music and lyrical music.

Any last words of aspiration before we finish up here?

You can make anything happen if you set your mind to it and work hard for it. Don’t let anyone stop you from your dream.
