8 Best Computers For DJing in 2020

If you are in the market for a computer to use when you DJ, you must remember to take into consideration the fact that you will be using it for more than just doing that.

The best computer for djing must be able to be used for live performances as well as in your DJ sets.

But what must you look out for to get the best computer for djing for your needs? Having a fast and powerful CPU is a good start.

So, it lots of RAM, disk space, and enough battery life so that you don’t have to worry about it losing power right in the middle of your performance.

Remember that you also need it to have a good operating system, such as Windows 10, because without that all the good hardware inside goes to waste.

It also ensures that your music production studio will function smoothly whether you are at home, in the studio or on the road.

The display is also a big factor.

It must be big and clear, and the trackpad must also be easy to use.

There is nothing worse than having a great laptop that’s let down by a terrible trackpad.

Ports and connectivity are other things to consider.

You need enough ports on it to connect it to your equipment without the need for extra dongles or connectors.

This should all be wrapped up by having enough reliability.

If your djing laptop runs poorly then it can ruin a performance or gig completely.

Another final thing to consider is robustness.

If you plan to use this laptop because you DJ for a living, then it must be able to stand up to whatever life throws at it.

Based upon all of this I have compiled a list of what I think are eight of the best computers for djing that you can buy right now.

Let’s jump straight in.

Now, let’s get to the list!

HP 15.6″

HP 15.6 - best cheap computer for djing

Most laptops on my list here focus on being portable and lightweight.

But if you want something with a little more weight behind it then this could be the computer for you.

It weighs in at 4.74lb which makes it a little heavier than the other computers on my list.

But all that weight goes towards making this robust and sturdy.

So, you can use this for live performances and not have to worry that it may break if something happens to it.

It’s powered, not by Intel, but by an AMD quad-core CPU which has a speed of 2.5GHz.

Windows 10 powers all of this and that gives you the freedom to run all your DJ software without any issues.

For storage, this laptop uses a hybrid system of a 4GB SSD for Windows 10 and a 500GB hard drive for everything else.

I liked the fact that’s it’s tough and robust.

It’s AMD CPU certainly gives Intel a run for its money too.

You get 500GB of storage space, although it isn’t an SSD, and all of this comes with a nice big screen to help you get the most from your music production software.

The most appealing factor for many people though will just be the fact that it runs Windows 10 so all your normal programs if you are a Windows user, will work fine.

Acer Aspire E 15

Acer Aspire E 15 - best budget computer for djing live and in studio

I included this laptop on my list because it is also another great choice if you want something budget-friendly.

It’s good at doing both music production and live performances.

It has a large 15.6-inch display that outputs up to 1920 x 1080.

The brain of the operations is an Intel 8th Generation i3 CPU.

You also get Intel’s Turbo Boost technology which lets you run it even faster.

This is a great option to have if your production software requires a little more power for you to get the most out of it.

This is one of the best budget computers for djing that you can get.

For connectivity, you get a USB 3.1 port, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and an HDMI port.

This gives you lots of connectivity options for connecting your DJ equipment up to it.

When you factor in the decent amount of USB ports, its full HD screen, and its CPU that can give you that extra speed boost when you need it, you are looking at one of the best computers for djing that you can buy right now if you are working on a specific budget.

This is one of the cheapest laptops on my list.

I was especially impressed by the CPU and its performance because you get a lot of power and speed packed into all that value.

ASUS VivoBook F510UA

ASUS VivoBook F510UA - beat computer for serato dj software

ASUS make some great high-end laptops, such as the Rog Zephyrus, but if that is out of your price range, and you wanted a similar machine then this could be just the one for you.

This ASUS VivoBook model makes a great budget alternative.

To start with this is one incredibly thin and light computer, weighing in at just 3.7lbs.

You get high-level performance because it is powered by an Intel 8th Generation i5 CPU.

This gives you speeds from the standard 1.6GHz up to a blistering 3.4Ghz using the built-in Intel Turbo Boost technology.

Its 15.6-inch screen is anti-glare so you can easily use this both indoors and outdoors.

It offers a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 so it’s HD quality.

In terms of RAM, you get 8GB and this works in tandem with the CPU to give you a djing laptop that is fast and responsive.

This is what makes it ideal for music production.

I liked its specs for the combination of its screen, RAM and CPU capabilities.

Sure, it isn’t on spec with something like the Rog Zephyrus, but what it does do it does very well.

This is one of the laptops on my list that is the thinnest and lightweight outside of anything from Apple.

Its large screen and powerful CPU and ample RAM makes sure that this is one djing laptop you should be keeping your eye on.

It may not quite be the best computer for djing, but it does come close.

Lenovo Flex 14

Lenovo Flex 14 - best computer for djing under $1000

This is another djing laptop that is designed for those who are working on a budget.

Lenovo is known for producing a wide range of quality budget laptops and this one is no exception.

One such laptop would be the Lenovo Yoga.

But today in this article I have included the Lenovo Flex 14.

It’s powered by an AMD Ryzen 5.

This is a processor that gives you a lot of speed and power to get things done.

You also get a 256 GB SSD which is great for Djing when you consider the software and samples that are involved.

RAM is set at 12GB which is enough for music production.

It’s screen handles resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 which makes it Full HD.

Battery life isn’t an issue either as you get a maximum of 10 hours of juice when this has been fully charged.

I also liked the keyboard and found that it was well designed and comfortable to use.

This not-so-budget laptop, when you add up the CPU, storage, and RAM, gives you a djing computer that is quick and efficient when it comes to letting you create music.

And for many budding DJs that is enough to make it the best computer for djing for their needs.

ASUS C302CA-DHM4

ASUS C302CA-DHM4 - best tablet computer for djing on a budget

Here is a non-Apple machine for you to consider.

I have included this because ASUS has created a good laptop for djing if you are on a budget.

It gives you enough specs and performance to be able to produce music in the studio or take it on the road with you when you do live performances.

It’s powered by an Intel Core M3 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz.

You get a full HD resolution screen that can handle up to 1920 x 1080 pixels.

One of the great features of this computer is that it is versatile.

You can turn it from a computer into a tablet.

This is done using its 360-degree hinge and its touchscreen display.

The keyboard is backlit, and it’s bright, so you can easily see what you are doing when you are performing in a club.

It’s durable, thin, and light, thanks to its aluminum body.

For the price, you pay this offers great specs and performance if you are a DJ who is budget-conscious.

Being light and thin and versatile just adds to what is already great value.

Apple MacBook

Apple MacBook - best professional computer for karaoke dj budget

Weighing in at just 2lb and measuring 13.1mm in thickness.

This is one of the best machines you can get for a DJ who values portability above all else.

You can easily store this in a backpack or suitcase and take it on tour or the road with you without having to worry.

But that’s not to say that its performance specs aren’t good either.

You get a 12-inch display that can handle resolutions up to 2304 x 1440.

I already mentioned that one of the most important buying factors for a DJing laptop is the CPU.

You’ll be pleased to know that this computer features a 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 processor.

This isn’t as good as an i5 or i7, but you can rest assured that it won’t let you down and you can rely on it when you are composing or performing.

You also get the Turbo Boost feature which can increase the speed of the CPU up to a whopping 3.0GHz.

This is a fantastic CPU and goes a long way to making this the best computer for djing.

Included is 512GB of SSD storage.

It’s thin, light, and portable.

Thanks to the great CPU this is a good computer to take out on the road with you.

MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro - best macbook computer for serato dj pro

You would be forgiven for thinking that this list of mine would just feature Apple machines.

but yes, there are a few included here.

Such as the MacBook Pro.

This is a high-performance laptop that is designed mainly for DJ production.

It is more powerful than the MacBook Air which is also on my list.

You get some neat little features, such as a touch bar.

With this, you can map common computer actions to the touch bar so you can get your most common tasks done faster.

You can use the touch bar with your DJ apps to make it so that you can easily access the most common features or options to you.

This is a great way to be more productive and I only wish more non-Apple laptops would have the same thing.

This MacBook is powered by an incredible retina display.

Apple is famous for providing clear and vibrant displays and the MacBook Pro is no different.

It has a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i5.

With this CPU you get all the power you will ever need for music production.

What’s more, did I mention how good the display is?  It’s so fantastically clear that you’ll love it if you plan to use this for live performances.

In terms of connectivity, you get four Thunderbolt 3 ports so you can easily connect this to your external DJ equipment.

It’s also lightweight so you can take it out on the road with you and with 13-hour battery life, you won’t have to worry about this machine suddenly losing power in the middle of your music production or live performance.

MacBook Air

MacBook Air - good light durable computer to dj with

For most DJs or music producers a Mac is their usual go-to when it comes to hardware.

So, it would not be right if there wasn’t a MacBook on my list.

Here we have the MacBook Air.

These are the machines of choice for most DJs because they can easily handle both live performances and music production.

The MacBook Air in question here is powered by a 1.8GHz dual-core 8th Generation Intel Core i5 CPU.

This is also one incredibly light and thin machine.

Exactly what you would expect from Apple.

It is so lightweight it only weighs 2.96lbs.

This means it’s an excellent laptop to take on tour with you.

It’s easy to carry and super portable.

And just because it is light don’t think it isn’t durable or robust.

They really can take a beating, so you don’t have to worry about breaking it when you take this on the road with you.

If you want a lightweight computer with enough specs to help you DJ in the studio and on the road then this could be the perfect computer for you.

The CPU mentioned is powerful and it also has a fantastically clear 13-inch display.

You also get an HD camera and 128GB SSD storage included as standard.

It works great for music production but it’s also great for live performances and is supremely portable.

One of the best offerings on my list.

Buyer’s Guide: Best Computers For DJing

Buyer's Guide - Best Computers For DJing

Now that I have given you my list of what I think are the best computers for djing you may be at a bit of a loss when it comes to deciding just exactly what you need to look for in a computer that you will use for music production.

Never fear.

That is why I have also included a brief buyers guide so you know exactly what to look for if you are in the market for the best computer for djing.

To start with you must remember that there are several key features that you must consider, no matter what computer you end up buying.

When researching a computer to purchase to use for djing make sure you pay attention to how much RAM it has, and its CPU processor.

If you focus on these two key points, then you will end up with the best computer for djing that you can use for both indoor music production and live performances.

Robustness and Portability

These two things should never be overlooked when buying a computer.

If you are a DJ who enjoys live performances, then you must make sure that whatever computer you buy can take a knock or two when out and about.

Make sure also that whatever computer you choose is made from a strong material, such as aluminum.

The ASUS C302CA-DHM4 on my list is a good example of this.

If you want a portable laptop it must be both thin and light.

When buying a new laptop, check its weight and the dimensions.

Always think about battery power as well.

You need a laptop that is portable but also has a battery whose lifespan is enough for you without you having to worry about losing power at any time.

Powerful CPU

Because most laptops will feature either an AMD or Intel CPU make sure you go for one that is either dual-core or quad-core.

A quad-core will be faster than a dual-core CPU.

For djing, you have a choice of 13, i5, or i7 CPUs.

As you would expect, going for an i7 will be the best option.

RAM and Hard Disk Space

Look for a computer with at least 8GB RAM.

16GB RAM is preferred, but that will cost you more.

Make sure you do not go for a computer with anything less than 8GB RAM.

For hard disk space, 1TB should be enough.

Ideally, you want an SSD, but a laptop with that amount of space in an SSD will be super costly.

Stick with making sure you at least have 1TB hard disk space for all your programs.

Screen

Make sure you think about the size of the screen and its resolution.

Having a large screen may be better for you to create music but it means that it is less portable because of the extra weight that it adds.

You should always make sure that you have an HD screen, regardless of the size.

If you prefer djing for live performances, then a bigger screen is always a good choice to make.

Connectivity

Because you want to be able to connect all your DJ equipment to your new computer you will need one with lots of ports.

Always check how many USB ports it has and the type of USB connections you get. USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3 ports – both of which are on Apple machines – are the best and fastest ports you can get right now.

But don’t worry, even USB 2.0 ports will be enough for most things.

Can You DJ Using Just A Laptop?

This is a great question but depends entirely on the DJ.

But adding DJ controllers, audio interfaces and turntables are all great pieces of DJ equipment you can use to enhance your performance.

As a bonus tip for you, always make sure that your Djing computer has a quick and powerful CPU, like an Intel i7, when doing your buying research.

Conclusion

So, which computer on my list is the best for djing?

Unfortunately, there is no clear winner because it depends on your needs and your budget.

But make sure you pick one with a powerful CPU, and at least 8GB RAM.

Those two requirements alone in your new laptop should make sure you get one that can handle your music production needs.

If you can get 16GB RAM, then that is a bonus.

But make sure that your computer is robust and can handle life out on the road with you.

If you follow my advice here and look through the computers, I have suggested in this article then I believe you can easily find the best computer for djing that is perfect for you.

Just remember to focus on CPU and RAM and you’ll be good to go.
