Looking for a great laptop with video editing capability you’re on a tight budget?
I have picked the top seven best laptops for video editing for less than $700 that have everything you need to turn that raw footage into a great video suitable for your YouTube channel.
I know that you’re skeptical.
A laptop for video editing under $700?
Believe me, I’ve used sub $700 laptops before, and they were nowhere near powerful enough for video editing.
However, these laptops have what it takes under the hood to get the job done.
Most people purchase laptops that are underpowered because they really don’t need that kind of power.
I believe that these laptops will fit the bill for aspiring video artists or YouTube influencers who need the basic equipment necessary for video editing.
Of course, there are a few things you will not be able to do with a $700 laptop — or it may take you a little longer to do.
The laptops I have featured below have plenty of processing power for applying basic video filters, cutting video clips, and converting video files to different formats, more advanced video features are out of their league.
All right, let’s get to the list now:
1. ASUS VivoBook F510UA-AH55
The ASUS VivoBook F510UA-AH55 is a laptop with the high-end design even if it is a little lower on the performance scale.
I consider it a great alternative to the Acer Aspire E 15 below.
You will never believe that this laptop is just a little over $600.
It weighs in at just 3.7 lbs and is amazingly thin.
The profile is only 0.8 inches thick.
This laptop would work great as your everyday PC.
The F510UA-AH55 sports a beautiful 15.6-inch NanoEdge Display with an amazing 80 percent screen-to-body ratio.
This makes this 15.6-inch laptop a compact ultrabook.
However, the F510UA-AH55 offers many connectivity options that include USB 3.1, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, and SD card ports, unlike many ultrabooks.
The Intel Core i5-8250U processor provides great performance.
It has 8GB DDR4 RAM and Intel UHD 620 graphics.
The dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi allows you to enjoy speeds of up to 867 Mbps or six times more than what you get from an older generation laptop with slower Wi-Fi.
2. Acer Aspire E 15
The Acer Aspire E 15 does not have the best design.
However, Acer was mostly going for good looks with this computer.
This laptop delivers as many features as they can to provide as much value for your money as possible.
It features Intel’s 8th generation Intel Core i7-8550U processor clocked at up to 4 GHz, a 258 GB SSD, and the GeForce MX150 dedicated graphics card from Nvidia, and 8 GB of dual-channel memory.
The incredibly large battery in this laptop keeps it running for up to 15 hours on every charge.
It features a very nice access door on the bottom of the laptop that provides access to upgrade the hard drive and memory with ease.
This is not something you see on many modern laptops.
Most laptops these days have set memory and/or hard drive that cannot be upgraded.
Many users will welcome this feature.
This computer’s 15.6-inch full HD display allows you to edit video with ease giving you enough space on the display to do so.
Additionally, the Acer TrueHarmony sound technology gives you true-to-life audio quality so you don’t always have to have your headphones around.
3. Samsung Chromebook Pro
I am betting you did not think you would see a Chromebook in this list, you’re not the only one.
Some people think that Chromebooks are just glorified tablets that are not good for the heavy computing we are talking about and are useless for content creation.
This sentiment is not true anymore.
Chromebooks, like this Samsung Chromebook Pro, can now able to run Android apps, which includes excellent video editor apps such as FilmoraGo, KineMaster, Adobe Premiere Clip, and many others.
There are also other video editors in the Chrome Web Store, as well as online video editors like WeVideo, with many of the features many users will need which makes it easy to capture, view, create, and share your movies at resolutions up to 4K for amazing playback anywhere.
This amazing Chromebook has a display of 12.3-inch and has a resolution of 2400×1600.
It is powered by an Intel Core M3 processor 6Y30 and includes 4 GB of memory.
The processor is not very powerful, but it should be sufficient for your basic video editing.
4. Microsoft Surface Laptop
This is the original Surface Laptop and is an excellent choice if you are just getting started with video editing.
It has plenty of power to get you started but also has a big screen that is clear and shows you all the details you need to see.
It has a 13.5-inch PixelSense display which gives you the clarity you need to cut, crop, and edit most effects for your video.
The display on the Microsoft Surface Laptop is a touchscreen as well, giving you better control over your board or storyline.
It includes 8GB of RAM, so you will have no problem dealing with your video editor.
5. Microsoft Surface Go
The Microsoft Surface Go costs less than $600 for the 128 GB version of the device without accessories and less than $700 together with the Microsoft Surface Go Type Cover.
The cover transforms the tablet into a great laptop.
Windows 10 Home in S Mode is the operating system on The Surface Go, which is a little more limited since it is a locked-down version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system as it only allows you to install apps from the Microsoft Store.
However, there are many great video editors in the Microsoft Store, such as Animotica, a great video editor that is easy-to-use and lets you easily join, trim, split, and combine video clips and photos, add voiceover, transitions, effects, and much more.
The Surface Go is not as powerful as other, more traditional laptops, but it makes up for it with its long battery-life, convenience, and ultra-portable design.
Other than the Microsoft Surface Go Type Cover, you may also want to purchase the Microsoft Surface Pen that allows you to write and draw naturally.
6. Lenovo Miix 510
The next laptop on this list is a 12.2-inch convertible laptop.
The Lenovo Miix 510 has a detachable keyboard and amazing watchband hinges that will adjust up to 150°.
This helps you get the ideal viewing angle so you can see everything you need for video editing and any other task.
This laptop has an Intel Core i5 processor, 128 GB SSD, 8 GB of memory, and an integrated graphics card, all for about $700.
The laptop battery allows it to easily last 8 hours on a charge, and it has an excellent keyboard despite its compact size.
The keyboard doubles as a folio case and protects the display from scratches and damage.
The keyboard can also be detached from the laptop, making the Lenovo Miix 510 more versatile than other laptops.
This makes this laptop an excellent buy for those looking for a computer that can do more than video editing.
7. Huawei Kepler
Finally, we have a look at the Huawei Kepler.
This laptop comes with a great 14-inch 1,920 x 1,080 display.
The resolution isn’t the best, but it is full HD, and it will work for you just fine.
You should move through the motions pretty quickly with the 8GB of RAM inside.
There is only one downside — one that is similar to the Surface Laptop —you only get 256GB of internal storage.
Rendering raw video footage takes a lot of storage so you may not have enough room with this laptop, but it has USB 3.0 ports available, so you should have no problems connecting an external SSD or hard drive.
It has a powerful AMD R5 processor as well, so things should keep moving pretty quickly.
Best Video Editing Laptops for Under $700 – The Verdict
If you’re just beginning with video editing, ridiculously expensive computers are not your only choice.
Professional video editors may drop thousands on an amazing machine that can crunch and render video better.
However, you don’t need a computer like that even if you’re just getting started in video editing.
Today’s laptops for $700 or less should give you enough raw power for your video needs.
